Kosma’s work is somewhere between voluntary and induced, its subjects between provocateur and victim. They are contingent on the artist’s suggestion, showing an astute inversion of audience and performer akin to the hippie idioms of LaMonte Young, but coarser and thus more real world resonant.

The images below are taken from a series called Headfuck in which a spare and unorthodox score is performed. The first photo (taken from Headfuck: 1) shows the “band” on a “stage” in a gallery. The second is the ephemeral product of the first (Headfuck: 2), footage of a woman gripped with an almost fearful confusion while watching a performance of the almost musical piece. She is not aware of the camera. The song, the presumed artistic vehicle, has left her vulnerable enough to become the video’s spied-on protagonist.
